The Nez Perce War of 1877 continues

MONDAY, AUGUST 12, 2002 The Billings Gazette continues its ongoing series on the Nez Perce War of 1877. The war and its battles were fought by five Nez Perce bands who refused to be confined to a reservation in Idaho. The bands entered Montana in late July of 1877 on their ill-fated quest to reach Canada. Today's stories recount an early August 9 attack on a Nez Perce camp, two warriors who died fighting and an Army solder with a conscience. Get the Story:
