Narragansett chief attends gaming hearings

THURSDAY, AUGUST 15, 2002 The Special House Commission to Study Gaming is holding 28 public hearings over a nine-month period to study the impact of gaming in Rhode Island. Narragansett chief sachem Matthew Thomas plans to attend all of them. He's gone to the three held so far. The Narragansett Tribe has sought to open a casino for years. Voters of the state must approve any new development but state lawmakers haven't agreed to put the issue on any ballot. Get the Story:
