A Navajo Nation court on Wednesday struck down a $10,000 pay hike tribal council members approved for themselves.

The council raised its salary from $25,000 to $35,000. The salary for president was increased to $65,000 and vice-president to $55,000.

Navajo Nation President Kelsey Begaye had vetoed the raise.

The council can appeal to the Navajo Nation Supreme Court.
