Rival tribe claims Pequot descent

FRIDAY, AUGUST 23, 2002 A Rhode Island group is claiming to be the true descendants of the historic Eastern Pequot Tribe. The Wiquapaug Eastern Pequot Tribe plans to challenge Assistant Secretary Neal McCaleb's recent decision to recognize the historic Eastern Pequot Tribe. The Wiquapaug group has to file by September 30. The state of Connecticut and three towns are also expected to challenge the decision. Get the Story:
