Can. murder suspect arrested

THURSDAY, AUGUST 29, 2002 Police in Canada on Wednesday night arrested a man suspected of the brutal murder and of an 11-year-old boy. Thomas Santiago McEvoy, 23, is believed to have killed the boy at the Aboriginal Centre in Wininpeg, Manitoba. A security worker discovered the body and McEvoy, on Tuesday, and McEvoy was seen fleeing the scene, according to media reports. The murder has shocked the urban Native community in Winnipeg. The centre, with is day care and other programs, is a popular gathering place for many of the city's Aboriginals. Elders have been called in to help the centre staff and community members deal with the tragedy. It has not been reported if the victim is Native. The CBC reported that he had gone to the centre with his uncle to use the computers located in a basement room. The murder occurred there. McEvoy has been described as Hispanic.
