FRIDAY, AUGUST 30, 2002

The Navajo Nation plans to keep most of the revenues from a 3-percent tax it instituted earlier this year.

According to The Farmington Daily-Times, the tribe will keep $1.9 out of $3 million generated from April to June. The rest, $1.1 million, will be distributed as follows: 75 percent into a government-wide trust fund and 25 percent to the chapter houses, the local Navajo government entities.

The distribution has some Navajo leaders upset.
