Navajo candidates appear at forum

MONDAY, SEPTEMBER 2, 2002 A forum was held on Friday for the Navajo Nation presidential candidates. According to The Farmington Daily-Times, 14 out of 17 candidates showed up. Those missing were: Council Speaker Edward T. Begay, Calvin Tsosie Sr. and write-in candidate Norman Little. Candidates were posed questions by a panel and by tribal members. A frequent topic was reforming the tribe's three-branch government. Many grassroots Navajo complain that the tribal council, the legislative body, has too much power. Get the Story:
