N.M. tribes get food safety grants

Three New Mexico tribes have received Department of Agriculture grants for food and agriculture homeland security.

The Jicarilla Apache Nation was awarded $20,000, the Mescalero Apache Nation $30,000 and the Navajo Nation $50,000.

The money comes from a $328 million spending bill. The grants are aimed at developing foreign animal disease surveillance, preparedness and response.
