THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 12, 2002 A water rights pact affecting the Gila River Tribe of Arizona is being finalized, The Eastern Arizona Courier reports. The deal, however, doesn't include the San Carlos Apache Tribe, which walked away from negotiations two years ago. Those who agreed are the Gila River Tribe, local communities and irrigation districts and the Department of Interior. Sen. Jon Kyl (R-Ariz.) is expected to introduce a bill to approve the pact.
