FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 13, 2002 Sens. Pete Domenici (R-N.M.) and Ben Nighthorse Campbell (R-Colo.) successfully negotiated changes in energy policy to benefit Indian Country. A joint House-Senate conference committee agreed to increase tribal authority over oil and gas leasing. Another provision promotes economic development by renewing an employment tax credit.
