It took District of Columbia emergency medical technicians 13 minutes to reach a Blackfeet elder who suffered a heart attack at the National Museum of the American Indian's pow-wow.

Virgil Cross Guns, 60, was performing when he suffered the attack. He was pronounced dead at a local hospital.

On average, D.C. EMTs take 10 minutes, 32 seconds to arrive at a critical emergency, nearly twice the amount of time in surrounding areas. The American Heart Association recommends first help arrive within three to five minutes.
