Big Indian to grace Kan. statehouse

MONDAY, SEPTEMBER 23, 2002 Kansas will become the second state to put a statue of an Indian atop its statehouse but at considerably more cost and controversy. "Ad Astra" is a $614,200 22-foot, 5,000-pound figure sculpture. It is supposed to represent a Kanza, or Kaw, man. "Ad Astra" is going on a statewide tour before being hosted on the dome on October 7.
