Crowds in Kansas have turned out in force to see a statue representing a Kanza Indian, to the surprise of its creator.

"Ad Astra" is a 22-foot, 5,000-pound figure sculpture that is to go on top of the Kansas Statehouse. The state spent $614,000 on the figure.

"Ad Astra" will be hoisted on October 7.
