YMCA makes changes to 'Indian' program

THURSDAY, OCTOBER 3, 2002 YMCA chapters have been making changes to their "Indian Guide" and "Indian Princesses" programs in response to complaints by Native Americans. The changes mostly involve eliminating the word "Indian" from the program titles and removing associated Indian themes and imagery. Leaders are no longer called "chiefs" and the kids don't wear "headdresses" any more. Get the Story:
