TUESDAY, OCTOBER 8, 2002 New York Governor George Pataki (R) is moving forward on casino compact talks with the St. Regis / Akwesasne Mohawk Nation, Steve Israel of The Middletown Times Herald-Record reports. There's no timeline for an agreement, according to Pataki's office. But there might be an announcement by election time, a tribal spokesperson told Israel. Talks with the Stockbridge-Munsee Band of Mohicans, originally from New York but now based in Wisconsin, are possible because a Department of Interior attorney said the tribe's New York claim is valid.
