WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 16, 2002

The state of Illinois is reviewing the death penalty sentences of more than 150 convicts.

A state board began looking at the cases yesterday. Gov. George Ryan ordered the massive review after 13 men on death row were cleared by DNA evidence. He has also put all executions on hold.

The board will make recommendations to the governor, who has the power to grant executive clemency.
