White man sounds like an Indian activist

Minnesota's Green Party had endorsed Ed McGaa, a tribal member, as its candidate for U.S. Senate. But the official candidate, Ray Tricomo, sounds more like an Indian activist.

Where McGaa talked about the military and veterans and economic development, Tricomo talks about civil rights and stereotypes and Crazy Horse.

"Native people have been marginalized. They've been ignored," he said in a Minneapolis Star Tribune profile "We need to be a more native-centered, ecologically centered society."

Tricomo, who is blind, is co-founder and director of Kalpulli Turtle Island Multiversity, a nonprofit organization focused on creating what he calls an "indigenous-centered society."
