Diabetics on Minnesota's White Earth Reservation are connecting to traditional foods thanks to an ambitious "cultural restoration" program.

The Mino-Miijim Project was established to provide healthy alternatives to those who suffer from diabetes. Buffalo meat, hominy corn and wild rice are deliver to homes throughout the reservation.

The effort is part of the White Earth Land Recovery Project, a non-profit founded by activist Winona LaDuke. "It's not just a medical program, and it's not just a preventative health program," LaDuke told the AP. "It's a cultural restoration program."
