The acting chairman of the Crow Tribe of Montana received the second highest number of votes in a primary held on Saturday.

The election, the first of its kind in tribal history, was called because Clifford Bird in Ground resigned as chairman after being indicted and pleading guilty. Vincent Goes Ahead Jr. has been acting as chairman and received 507 votes in the primary.

Carl Venne received 512 votes. He and Goes Ahead will compete in the November 9 general election.
