Visit to Japan is first for tribe

TUESDAY, OCTOBER 29, 2002 The Saginaw Chippewa Tribe of Michigan is making its first international cultural exchange. The tribe will visit Okaya, Japan, for a four-day event this weekend. Called "Gwii-Maa-Jii-Kaa-Naa," which means "we are beginning" in the Ojibwe language, it will feature ceremonies and demonstrations. The tribe was invited to Japan by the Okaya International Exchange Association. Get the Story:
