WEDNESDAY, NOVEMBER 6, 2002

In an editorial today, The New London Day tentatively supports the goals and vision of Michael J. Thomas, the newly elected chairman of the Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nation of Connecticut.

The paper says Thomas can improve relations with local communities. "He will serve the Mashantuckets well if he translates this feeling into action regularly with neighbors of the tribe," the paper writes.

Thomas also faces challenges with the growth tribe's casino and improving housing on the reservation, the paper says.
