FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 8, 2002

A reported 100 people turned out on Thursday night to discuss a drilling proposal on the Crow Reservation in Montana.

The Crow Tribe and Bill Barrett Corp. have agreed to develop 9,600 acres for coalbed methane. The Bureau of Indian Affairs is preparing an analysis of the project.

Some concerns about impacts on water were identified by an official of the Northern Cheyenne Tribe, whose land borders the Crow Reservation. Local Crow landowners also called on the BIA to perform a full environmental impact statement instead of a less extensive environmental assessment.
