Vatican limits Indian deacons in Mexico

TUESDAY, NOVEMBER 12, 2002 The Vatican will not reverse a five-year moratorium on new Indian deacons in Chiapas, Mexico, the Associated Press reports. A growing number of Indians have been joining the Catholic Church as deacons. According to the AP, Mayan communities respect deacons but not priests. Get the Story:
