The New London Day in an editorial today softens its qualified support for Michael J. Thomas, the newly elected chairman of the Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nation of Connecticut.

The paper last week wrote an editorial that said Thomas was right to seek talks with local leaders over land, casino and other issues. It reinforces the position by stating action is needed to make real progress.

"It makes no sense that the tribe, one of the biggest economic and social forces in the region, and the communities around Mashantucket don't work together," the paper writes.
