Democrats plan to allow confirmation of two of President Bush's appointees to the federal bench, The New York Times reports.

One is Dennis W. Shedd, a federal judge appointed to the 4th Circuit Court of Appeals. The court covers the states of Maryland, North Carolina, South Carolina, Virginia and West Virginia.

The other is Prof. Michael McConnell of the University of Utah, nominated to the 10th Circuit, a court that hears cases affecting tribes in Colorado, Kansas, New Mexico, Oklahoma, Utah and Wyoming. He had been criticized for legal arguments he advanced concerning constitutional rights.
