Wash. tribe shuts down pharmacy

TUESDAY, NOVEMBER 19, 2002 The Stillaguamish Tribe of Washington has closed its discount pharmacy because it was selling drugs to non-tribal members. Complaints about the cheap prices prompted state legislators to call federal authorities, The Everett Daily Herald reported. The Office of Pharmacy Affairs, part of the federal Health and Human Services department, contacted the tribe and said the drugs had to be limited to Indians. The Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nation of Connecticut operates a similar program and was told to stop selling discount drugs to its employees in late 2000. Get the Story:
