WEDNESDAY, NOVEMBER 20, 2002 Native Americans need to take personal responsibility for their health, The Farmington Daily-Times says in an editorial today. The paper cites high rates of diabetes in Indian Country. "Poor eating habits, such as the consumption of large amounts of fast food and snacks, contributes to a growing obesity problem, which in turn, is one of the leading causes of diabetes," the editorial states. Combined with high unemployment and poverty, this has created a "health-care crisis" for Indian people, the paper concludes. Get the Story:
