Edward Manuel, the chairman of the Tohono O'odham Nation of Arizona, was arrested last month after allegedly agreeing to pay an undercover police officer for sex.

According to a police report cited by The Tucson Citizen, Manuel waved down the officer and stopped his car alongside her in an area known for prostitutes. He was arrested after going with the officer to a nearby room, the paper said, and charged with misdemeanor counts of prostitution and loitering for prostitution.

According to a report by KOLD-TV, a reporter from the television station recorded video of Manuel on the the night of the October 17 arrest. It was unclear why the station waited a month to report the incident.

Manuel in a statement said he expects to be cleared of the charges.
