Students at North Dakota State University aren't the only ones challenging the "Fighting Sioux" nickname of rivals University of North Dakota.

Some NDSU officials also oppose the nickname, which is considered offensive by Sioux tribes in the region. Recently, a public address announcer was asked not to mention "Fighting Sioux" during a game between NDSU and UND.

NDSU's athletic director said the school recognizes the nickname is offensive to some.

Separately, the student senate is considering a resolution to formally oppose the UND nickname.
