THURSDAY, NOVEMBER 21, 2002

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers is getting ready to sign off on a proposed highway expansion near Haskell Indian Nations University in Kansas.

Students and environmentalists oppose the expansion because they fear it threatens historic wetlands. So the Corps is asking the state of Kansas to build a 12-foot wall facing Haskell and another 6-foot wall facing the wetlands in order to limit the impact of the development.
