A game of Cabinet chess has begun, The Washington Post reports, as Beltway insiders try to find out whether President Bush's White House team will see any changes soon.

The big players, according to the paper, are Environmental Protection Agency Administrator Christine Todd Whitman, and Agriculture Secretary Ann Veneman. Whitman might move to a different position while Veneman may resign, to be possibly replaced by John Thune, who lost his Senate campaign to Tim Johnson of South Dakota.

The article includes speculation about a number of seats in the 21-member Cabinet -- except for Secretary of Interior Gale Norton.
