TUESDAY, DECEMBER 3, 2002

Natives in the Inuit territory of Nunavut are seeking an exemption from a Canadian gun control law.

The law goes into effect January 1, 2003, and requires prospective gun owners to buy a license for a gun. The Inuit's land claim organization says the law violates its agreement with Canada.

A lawsuit on the issue awaits a trial date.
