FRIDAY, DECEMBER 6, 2002

Secretary of Interior Gale Norton isn't planning on leaving the Bush administration to pursue a federal judgeship, a department spokesperson said.

Dan DuBray, Assistant Secretary Neal McCaleb's communications aide, said the story was a rumor. According to Indian Country Today, he characterized The Washington Post's report of Norton's alleged plans as a "humor piece."

Although DuBray implied the story was circulated by Indianz.Com, according to ICT, it was actually published by Al Kamen, a widely respected columnist, in the December 4 edition of The Post.
