A 30-year veteran of the National Park Service is leaving federal service because he says the Bush administration wanted him to push through controversial projects.

David A. Mihalic, an Oglala Lakota, is the superintendent of the Yellowstone National Park but was being transferred to the the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. He alleges he was told to make sure a land swap affecting the Eastern Cherokee Tribe of North Carolina and a separate road project were approved.

When he refused and asked for another post, he says he was not offered one. So he chose early retirement.
