Phil Hogen, the new chairman of the National Indian Gaming Commission, responded to claims by New York Times columnist William Safire.

Safire, in a column critical of tribal casinos, wrote that Hogen will "rock no boats." Hogen told The Las Vegas Review-Journal: "If the boat needs rocking, we're not going to shy from it."

Hogen was officially sworn in as chairman yesterday.
