A Republican-led effort to repeal a law that paved the way for tribal casinos is up in the air, The Hartford Courant reports.

Yesterday, Speaker of the House Moira Lyons, a Democrat, said the issue wasn't going to be considered. But later the paper said she indicated it would be on the table for a special legislative session that opens today.

Tribal leaders and Indian law experts say repealing the law won't stop the spread of gaming. Another report said the tribes can just go to the Department of Interior if the state won't negotiate for a casino compact.
