A Montana state study shows that American Indian infants and children die at higher rates than their counterparts.

Native children are 10 percent of the young population but 17 percent of deaths between 1997 and 2000. Indian children were more than twice as likely to die in a car wreck, more likely to die of Sudden Infant Death Syndrome, and more like to die from unintentional injuries.
