Mont. tribes take water into own hands

FRIDAY, DECEMBER 20, 2002 The Confederated Salish and Kootenai Tribes of Montana are asserting sovereignty over their water rights on the Flathead Reservation. The tribes are entitled to a fair share of water but the rights have never been quantified. They plan to do that on their own now since state negotiators have balked at giving the tribes control.
