Samish: Other tribes 'without honor'

Ken Hansen, chairman of the Samish Nation of Washington, criticized his colleagues for opposing his tribe's attempt to reaffirm its treaty rights.

"I particularly find the other tribes who opposed us to be without honor," Hansen told The Seattle Post-Intelligencer. "There is no justice in a decision made because the United States and the tribes don't want to do any work,"

Hansen referred to a court ruling that denied the Samish motion to be included in the 1974 Boldt ruling. Although a signatory to the 1855 Treaty of Point Elliott, the tribe was considered to have lost its federal status and rights.
