Research being reported today in the New England Journal of Medicine says that drinking alcohol every day can "significantly" reduce the risk of heart attack.

The study by the Harvard School of Public Health in Boston was conducted among 38,000 men. After 12 years, the researchers found that those who consumed one or two drinks three to seven days a week reduced their risk of heart attack by as much as 37 percent. Those who increased their alcohol consumption by one drink a day experienced a 22 percent drop in their heart attack risk.
