Trial of mother accused of murder is underway

Opening arguments were heard on Wednesday in the first full day in the federal trial of a Navajo mother accused of murdering three of her children.

Elvira Charley is being tried in Arizona federal court for the January 1, 2002, deaths. Federal prosecutors painted her as a woman out for revenge because her husband was seeing another woman. The defense said she was abused by her husband.
