Top Metis leader asked to resign post

THURSDAY, JANUARY 9, 2003

The Métis National Council has asked President Gerald Morin to resign because he is facing assault charges.

Morin is refusing to step down, however. The council said it doesn't condone violent behavior and plans to review its legal options.
