Wyo. tribe battles senator on gaming rights

WEDNESDAY, JANUARY 15, 2003 The Northern Arapaho Tribe of Wyoming is trying to convince Senator Mike Enzi (R) not to introduce an appropriations rider that would overturn its recent court victory. A federal mediator last year said the tribe was entitled to certain forms of Class III gaming. But former Gov. Jim Geringer refused to negotiate a compact, leaving the issue up to Secretary of Interior Gale Norton. Enzi is considering an amendment that would prevent Norton from signing a compact. Tribal officials met with him yesterday to give him details about their casino project in hopes of preventing him from acting. Get the Story:
