Pequot tribe committed to improving city

WEDNESDAY, JANUARY 15, 2003 The Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nation of Connecticut is investing in several projects aimed at revitalizing downtown Norwich. The tribe is a major backer of a $19 million office building under construction. The tribe owned the property but turned it back to the city and will now lease it for $1.2 million a year. The Pequot and Mohegan Tribe have partnered to open a laundry facility in Norwich to serve their burgeoning casino resorts. The tribe owns other properties in the city and is looking to develop them.
