Putting up a Confederate flag to represent the Cherokee Nation of Oklahoma is "not appropriate," Chief Chad Smith said.

Smith said the Cherokee Brave flag represents one group of Cherokee citizens who fought for the Confederacy but not the entire tribe. State Rep. Wayne Pettigrew argues that the flag represents "Native American rights" and has authored a bill to fly it at the Statehouse.
