R.I. tribe makes bid for federal recognition

The Seakonk Wampanoag Tribe of Rhode Island is seeking federal recognition and plans to file land claims in Massachusetts, Rhode Island and Connecticut.

According to the Associated Press, there are 500 to 600 tribal members. A tribal spokesperson said they are concerned about alleged "encroachment" of other tribes.
