The Cherokee Nation of Oklahoma will distribute $1.2 million to public schools in its 14-county jurisdictional area, The Tulsa World reported.

The tribe is fulfilling a promise to share revenues from the sale of its car tags. About 300 schools will get money based on the number of Cherokee tribal members who attend the school.
