Tribal member never apologizes for success

MONDAY, FEBRUARY 3, 2003 John McCoy, a member of the Tulalip Tribes of Washington and the only Native American currently serving in the state Legislature, tells young people never to apologize for being successful. McCoy, who has been successful in the corporate and tribal world, said he was driven by his father. "He said I would never amount to anything," he tells The Seattle Times. McCoy, a Democrat, was elected last November to a district that includes the Tulalip Reservation. He is the fourth Native American in state history to serve in the Legislature. Get the Story:
