S.C. tribe needs more votes for constitution

WEDNESDAY, FEBRUARY 19, 2003 Not enough members of the Catawba Nation of South Carolina have voted on a proposed tribal constitution. The tribe needs 30 percent of eligible voters but has far less than that so far. Five attempts to garner the requisite votes have not succeeded. The federal law that recognized the tribe requires the vote on the constitution. Get the Story:
