THURSDAY, FEBRUARY 20, 2003 A $400,000 endowment at the University of Wyoming will be used for scholarships for American Indian students. The Chief Washakie Memorial Endowment is named after the famous Shoshone Chief Washakie whose negotiations with the U.S. led to the creation of the Wind River Reservation. The endowment was funded through the same committee that raised money for a statue of Chief Washakie to be placed at the National Statuary Hall in Washington, D.C. Get the Story:
